We, Podfest, build communities and continue to do conscious work to create a family that is built out of love, no matter your race, sexuality, economic status, or gender.
We know that no matter how much we want this vision to be a reality, that this basic understanding has not been universally achieved.
However, Podfest will continue to insist on a family led by love, and that racism of any kind will not be tolerated. Consistent with this commitment, we have carefully developed this Discrimination Policy.
This Discrimination Policy formalizes a process for handling issues that arise when there is a violation. However, by no means does this outline the full picture of what Podfest is committed to, or the behavior expected of Podfest’s Staff, Speakers, Moderators, Volunteers, and Attendees which goes far beyond simply acting consistent with policies.
Everyone who works with Podfest and participate in our events, panels, etc. has the right to an environment that is inclusive and promotes equal access and participation. Discrimination will not be tolerated at Podfest, and states what actions to take if there is a belief that you or another have been discriminated against at Podfest and what action Podfest will take in the event we find discrimination has taken place.
All Podfest’s Staff, Speakers, Moderators, Volunteers, and Attendees at our conference are required to agree to the following diversity policy. Podfest will enforce this Policy and expects cooperation from everyone.

This Policy applies to all Podfest’s Staff, Speakers, Moderators, Volunteers, and Attendees and its affiliated companies.
Discrimination based on such factors as, but not limited to, race, color, ancestry, national origin, place of birth, sex (including pregnancy, childbirth, and related conditions), age, religion, creed, disability, sexual orientation, or gender identity is strictly prohibited at Podfest and will not be tolerated. Podfest participants have the right to be free from harassment, sexual harassment and solicitation as well as discrimination.
In the event that anyone working or participating at Podfest acts in a way inconsistent with this Policy, any Staff Member, Speaker, Moderator, or Volunteer who observes or overhears the behavior is expected to take immediate action to stop the behavior.
Discrimination is any prejudicial treatment of an individual or group of people based, but not limited to such factors as, race, color, ancestry, national origin, place of birth, sex (including pregnancy, childbirth and related conditions), age, religion, creed, disability, sexual orientation or gender identity. Discrimination can be behavior or inaction that is physical, verbal, or visual; it can be in person, over the phone, written or online. This prejudicial treatment can include: offensive jokes or demeaning remarks; name calling, offensive nicknames, or slurs; threats and intimidation; threats or solicitation made by a person in a position to confer, grant, or deny a benefit or advancement outside of Podfest.
Harassment can include but is not limited to: inappropriate or insulting remarks and gestures; persistent unwanted questions about an individual’s private life; or the posting or display of material which may cause offense or embarrassment.
Sexual harassment is behavior characterized by the making of unwelcome and inappropriate actions based on sex and gender identity. This also includes but is not limited to: Unwelcome sexual advances; requests for sexual favors and other verbal or physical conduct; unwanted letters, messages, calls of a sexual nature; sexual solicitation made by a person in a position to confer, grant, or deny a benefit or advancement outside of Podfest. or offensive remarks about a person’s sex and gender identity.
HOW TO REPORT A POTENTIAL VIOLATION
Individuals who have experienced discrimination or who have witnessed potential violations of this Discrimination Policy should inform our Safety Officer at firstname.lastname@example.org, or a Staff Member, Speaker, Moderator, or Volunteer. It is the individual’s choice which of these people they inform.
When reporting potential discrimination, the following is to be included:
- The date(s) and time(s) of the conduct
- The name of the person whose conduct is being reported
- A description of the conduct
- Names of any witnesses to the conduct
INVESTIGATION PROCEDURES AND RESPONSE
Every report of a violation of the Discrimination Policy will be promptly and thoroughly investigated by the Safety Officer to determine if there was a violation of the Discrimination Policy. During the investigation, Podfest will make every effort to protect the confidentiality and rights of the individuals involved in the investigation. If the Safety Officer determines that a violation of this policy has occurred, Podfest will take actions appropriate to the circumstances which may include disciplinary action up to and including termination of employment (or participation in future events).
At the conclusion of the investigation, Podfest will advise all parties involved in the violation the results of the investigation.
Podfest will not tolerate retaliation against anyone who makes a complaint or report of discrimination or who participates in the investigation of a discrimination complaint or report.
Podfest has the right to make changes, additions, and deletions to this policy without notice.
